Just a year ago many Internet gurus were proclaiming the end to email marketing and welcoming of RSS. How quickly that notion got erased. With cheap email management software such as Mailchimp and Aweber, 2009 saw a huge revitalization in email marketing.
Email marketing allows you to build up a database of users who have voluntarily opted-in to hear more about what you or your company has to say. Nothing gets more targeted than that. Just imagine having a group of people that you can instantly contact that second you have an update or new product launch.
While we can easily create and publish a sign-up form on our site via our email management software, how do we build our email list?
1. Give Free Stuff
The easiest way is to give subscribers something free. Everybody likes free stuff and if all they to do is input their email address, then most people will gladly follow through. Once you have them locked in, have faith that your content will keep them there. You can give them an ebook, free report, or access to some private area.
2. Hold A Contest
Whether you can give away one of your own products or get sponsored by an affiliate, hold a contest where the only requirement to enter is to sign up for your email list. While holding a contest is not the best method for creating a steady growth of subscribers over time, you will definitely see a spike.
3. Post Value-Added Content
By posting content with substance, ultimately that will help gain email subscribers regardless of giving anything for free or not. At the end of the day, subscribers opt into your email list because they have accepted your brand. If you don't provide anything of value, then they probably won't even care about what you are offering for free.
